How to block incoming messages using the BlackBerry smartphone firewall

The following explains how to block incoming messages (SMS, MMS, PIN, BlackBerry® Internet Service, BlackBerry® Enterprise Server email) on the BlackBerry® smartphone using the smartphone firewall.

On the BlackBerry smartphone complete the following steps for BlackBerry Smartphones running BlackBerry® Device Software 6.0:

From the Home screen of the smartphone, click Options. Select Security > Firewall.

To block all incoming SMS/Text Messages messages:

Select the Text Messages check box. Display the menu and select Save.

To block all incoming PIN messages:

Select the PIN check box. Display the menu and select Save.

To block all incoming BlackBerry Internet Service messages:

Select the Personal Email check box. Display the menu and select Save.

To block all incoming BlackBerry Enterprise Server email messages:

Select the Enterprise email check box. Display the menu and select Save.

On the BlackBerry smartphone complete the following steps for BlackBerry Smartphones running BlackBerry Device Software 5.0:

From the Home screen of the smartphone, click Options. Select Security Options > Firewall.

To block all incoming SMS/Text Messages messages:

Select the SMS check box. Display the menu and select Save.

To block all incoming MMS messages:

Select the MMS check box. Display the menu and select Save.

To block all incoming PIN messages:

Select the PIN check box. Display the menu and select Save.

To block all incoming BlackBerry Internet Service messages:

Select the BlackBerry Internet Service check box. Display the menu and select Save.

To block all incoming BlackBerry Enterprise Server email messages:

Select the Enterprise email check box. Display the menu and select Save.

Note: Exceptions can be used to allow messages from the address book contacts or from specific addresses.

To block incoming messages except messages from the BlackBerry smartphone user address book complete the following steps:

Under Exceptions, Check the Contacts check box.

Note: This will block all messages except messages received from the contacts.

To block incoming messages except messages from specific address complete the following steps:

BlackBerry 6:

Under Exceptions, Check the Specific addresses check box. Click the Add button Once the Firewall Exceptions screen displays, click the menu key and choose Add Email Address or Add Phone Number or Add PIN Enter the Email Address or Phone Number or PIN then press the return/enter key The new exception will display in the list. Press the menu key and select Save.

BlackBerry Device Software 5.0:

Under Exceptions, Check the Specific addresses check box. Press the menu key and choose Configure Exceptions Once the Firewall Exceptions screen displays, click the menu key and choose Add Email Address or Add Phone Number or Add PIN Enter the Email Address or Phone Number or PIN then press the return/enter key The new exception will display in the list. Press the menu key and select Save.

Note: This will block all messages except messages received from the specific address(s).
